It's only a  matter of time before the Salvation Army in Springfield opens its emergency cooling center.

Normally,  the center is not open until the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory or an excessive heat  warning.

The local chapter also needs volunteers to staff the center once it's open.

If you'd like to help, call 862-5509. Or, if you have a box fan you would like to donate, drop it off at their office at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway.
