Missouri To Launch Task Force on Urban Violence
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster plans to form a statewide task force to look into urban violence and problems with victim cooperation.
The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/NlEoF3 ) reported that Koster announced the plans Friday. Some of the problems the task force will explore were outlined in a recent Star series.
The paper's analysis found that 60 percent of shooting victims wounded last year did not cooperate with Kansas City police, who then shut down the cases. Because so few cases were fully investigated, just 10 percent of shootings last year resulted in criminal charges.
Koster says the paper's findings "caused a lot of people to stop and think."
Koster also noted continuing concerns about the homicide rates in the state's two biggest cities.
