Gas Explosion At Opryland Hotel Forces Sheriffs To Evacuate
A gas explosion at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention center in Nashville caused the evacuation of more than 5,000 guests, but nobody was hurt.
Among those at the hotel was Greene County sheriff Jim Arnott.
He was in town attending the 2012 National Sheriffs Association Conference.
Arnott tells KTTS News he was next door when the explosion took place. He said he left for Springfield around one this morning, because he and others couldn't get back in their hotel rooms.
Arnott had been at the convention for about a day a half.
Authorities say it appears a gas leak ignited in a mechanical room in the convention part of the hotel. No hotel guest rooms were affected, but it caused significant damage to an escalator, walls and the ceiling.
