Fatal Crash On I-44

Police in Springfield say one person is dead after a passing eighteen wheeler hit a parked big rig on I-44 near the bridge over National Avenue. The impact pushed both trucks off the shoulder down an embankment where one truck caught fire.
Officers at the scene tell KTTS News, investigators are not sure which rig the dead driver was in when the accident happened. That is one of many questions an accident reconstruction team will attempt to answer.
