Drug Seized Money Helps Local Law Enforcement Agencies
Taking down one of the largest cocaine dealers in the area brings in a lot of money for area law enforcement involved in the drug bust.
Both the Greene County Sheriff's Office and Springfield Police Department can use the "forfeiture" funds obtained in the arrests of dealers.
There are some guidelines, agencies must prove money was used for law enforcement only, that can range from weapons to training costs to cash used to buy drugs from suspected dealers.
In the last five years, the Sheriff's Office and Police Department each spent more than a million in forfeiture money.
