(AP) - The mother of a newborn baby found abandoned in a St. Louis County yard has been arrested, though charges have not been filed.

The 19-year-old woman surrendered to Ellisville police on Monday. Police Chief Tom Felgate says she was booked and released pending formal charges. Felgate says she could be charged with child abandonment and child endangerment.

The baby was found with his umbilical cord still attached Thursday morning after a woman spotted a moving blanket under a pine tree outside her home. An Ellisville officer arrived and discovered the boy when he lifted the blanket.

The baby is in the care of the state.
