City leaders in Joplin have given folks an update on recovery efforts from the tornado that hit in May. Assistant City Manager Sam Anselm tells KTTS news around 75 hundred homes were destroyed by the twister. About half those folks have given permits to either make repairs or rebuild. Anselm also says leaders are now looking for a master planner who will help coordinate rebuilding by the city, the school district and business owners. Recommendations from the Citizen Action Response Team include multi-use development to locate stores with walking distance and greater use of public transportation.
