Tornado-Damaged Arkansas Church Reopens On Christmas
(AP) - All Pastor Tim Forrest wanted after a tornado damaged his Fountain Lake church was to reopen on Christmas Day.
A local construction company has granted that wish.
Workers and church volunteers were busy staining parts of the pulpit, cleaning windows and carpets and sprucing up for Sunday, when the Walnut Valley Baptist Church will host services for the first time since the April 25 tornado.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported in Saturday's editions that church members had to meet in Fountain Lake School District buildings after the twister ripped off the church's steeple and deposited glass and debris throughout the structure.
Forrest and 13 others were inside the church that day but no one
was hurt.
The repaired church now has a bigger kitchen, more pews and additional classroom space.
