Arkansas Governor Backs Health Exchange Partnership Idea
(AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe is supporting a partnership with the federal government to implement the insurance exchange required under the health care law after efforts for a state-run exchange failed.
Beebe announced Thursday that that he had endorsed the partnership idea in a letter earlier this week to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.
The exchange would be an online marketplace for individuals and small businesses to shop for health insurance. The federal law requires states to either set up an exchange or face having one
established for them by the federal government.
Beebe earlier this year gave up on setting up the exchange after facing opposition from Republicans in the majority-Democrat Legislature. He said a partnership would help the state maintain some control over the exchange.
