KC Police ID Man Shot, Killed At Homicide Scene
(AP) - Kansas City police have identified the man shot and killed by officers near where two women's bodies were found.
The Kansas City Star reported that 64-year-old Jerry Petty was killed Thanksgiving night after he came out of a south-central Kansas City house firing at officers.
The officers were there because they had received a report of a burglary in progress.
Inside the home, officers discovered the body of 16-year-old Deja Davis, and her 53-year-old godmother, Loretta Petty.
Another woman inside the house was uninjured and later released from police custody.
Former Kansas City Council woman, Mary Williams Neal, was an acquaintance of Petty's and told The Star that he had worked for Habitat for Humanity, although his salary was paid by another charity. Loretta and Jerry Petty were married.
