(AP) - St. Louis businessman Dave Spence says he is serious about a potential bid for governor - and may run even if it means a primary against Republican Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder.

Spence told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he wants Republicans to know there is alternative to Kinder as their candidate to challenge Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon in 2012.

Kinder is expected to announce a decision this month about whether to run for governor.

He had planned to enter the race shortly after Labor Day but delayed that after acknowledging in August that he had visited a strip club in in the 1990s.

Spence is the president and CEO of Alpha Packaging, which makes plastic bottles. He says the economy would be his main focus as a candidate.
