Man From Ark. To Stand Trial In Girl's Death
(AP) - A judge in Oklahoma has ordered a man from Fort Smith to stand trial for the 2010 fatal shooting of a girl.
The Southwest Times Record reports that Sequoyah County District Judge Jeff Payton bound Michael Clemente over for trial this week and set an Oct. 17 date.
Clemente is charged with first-degree murder in the March 2010 death of Elaine Keene, whom authorities say was shot as Clemente fled a robbery with her in the car. A bullet that struck
the vehicle wounded and eventually killed Elaine, who was just a year old.
Clemente has pleaded not guilty. His attorney, John Echols, declined comment on Friday.
Elaine's mother, Heather Jones, is charged with murder for allegedly driving Clemente to the home of robbery victim Devin Jeremiah, whom authorities say fired the bullet that killed Elaine.
