MO Delays Work On Health Insurance Exchange
(AP) - Missouri insurance officials have delayed plans to spend millions of federal dollars on a computer system needed to implement part of the new federal health care law backed by President Barack Obama.
A state board had been expected to vote Thursday on the expenditure of more than $13 million to prepare for a state-run "health insurance exchange," which would allow people to shop for insurance through an online marketplace.
If states don't adopt their own such plans, the federal government is to start running the exchange by 2014.
The vote was called off Thursday after several Republican senators raised concerns about plan.
The senators said they don't want Gov. Jay Nixon's administration's to move forward with a state-based insurance exchange unless it's given approval by the Legislature.
