Police say it will take time to piece together what led to a head-on crash near the Springfield-Branson National Airport that killed the two drivers.

Officers at the scene tell KTTS News reporter Mike Morgan a 60-year-old man was driving a red Dodge pickup, which collided with a Dodge Caravan being driven by a 40-year-old woman. At least one of the vehicles caught fire, which spread to the grass nearby but was quickly put out by arriving fire crews from Willard.

Sergeant Tom Luellen says since nobody saw the crash and since the two people involved were dead when police got there, it's putting extra strain on investigators who have only physical evidence to work with.

Luellen says names will be released once family members can be notified.
