Group Fighting E-verify Becoming Mandatory In Springfield
A group of people gathered outside the Busch Building in center -Springfield this morning, encouraging city council to say 'no' to the E-verify system. The Ozarks Minutemen is pushing the checks, saying the federal system can ensure employees getting hired here at home are in the country legally. But the group holding what it called a 'Rally To Reject Hate' says E-verify is nothing but racial profiling and hurts diversity in Springfield. Council is discussing the matter at its luncheon today. Council can decide to pass the measure or hand it off to voters in the spring.
