A Nixa police officer noticed smoke coming from a two-story apartment building this morning at Fort and South, waking the people up inside and getting them to safety.

Fire Chief Jimmy Seabree tells KTTS News he does not know just yet what started the fire or if the officer got a call to be in that area.  The officer forced open the door to alert the man and woman living there.  All three were given oxygen at the scene.

There is smoke and fire damage to the downstairs unit, and smoke damage to the second-story apartment.
