Event Aims To Help Students Reconnect in Joplin
(AP) - An event is scheduled this week to help Joplin area students reconnect with one another and teachers before school starts.
"I Am Joplin," is planned for Wednesday night at Missouri Southern State University. The event will include a ceremony to honor students and others who died in the May 22 tornado.
Jen Black, executive director of House of Hope, which is organizing the event, told The Joplin Globe the event is aimed at easing anxiety that kids have by allowing them to see people they know and process the death of their friends together.
She said participants will be grouped by elementary, middle and high school for recreational activities like face painting and disc golf. Organizations will also be on hand to discuss any resources the kids might need.
