Nixon Taps Utility Regulator For MO Appeals Court
(AP) - A Missouri utility regulator has been named to a state appeals court. Gov. Jay Nixon on Monday appointed Robert Clayton to the Eastern District Court of Appeals.
Clayton has been a member of the five-member Public Service Commission and served as chairman from 2009 until earlier this year.
Before that, Clayton served in the state House as a Democrat from 1995 until 2002.
Clayton fills a vacancy on the state appellate court that was created when Nanette Baker resigned to become a federal magistrate.
Missouri fills openings on appeals courts by using special nominating panels. The panel submits three finalists to the governor, who appoints one.
The other finalists were St. Louis County Circuit Judge Michael Burton and Patricia Hageman, the city counselor for St. Louis.
