Court Overturns Murder Conviction
(AP) - The Missouri Supreme Court has overturned the conviction of a man in the killing and robbery of a St. Charles storage facility worker.
The court on Tuesday reversed the murder and robbery conviction of 42-year-old Eric Winfrey. A new trial is expected.
The court said the trial judge erred in refusing to allow Winfrey's attorney to question a prosecution witness about statements that might have called into question the witness's credibility.
Winfrey's public defender, Melinda Pendergraph, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the testimony that was not allowed was critical. Winfrey was convicted of killing 27-year-old Christopher Hanneken of Maryland Heights in 2004.
