Buckle Up, Phone Down; MoDot Wants Drivers To Not Text And Drive

Tuesday is the third annual Buckle Up, Phone Down day in Missouri.

For Buckle Up, Phone Down day, it’s a day for the Missouri Department of Transportation to remind drivers to buckle up for safety and resist the urge to use a phone while driving.

While it’s reported that 88% of drivers use their seat belt, the “put down the phone” part is a much more challenging request for drivers.

Missouri is one of the only two states in the country where it is perfectly legal to text and drive if you are over 21.

MoDOT is hoping drivers will take that responsibility upon themselves to NOT drive distracted, despite the law..

Police can’t pull you over for simply not wearing a seatbelt, or just texting but, a proposed bill in Missouri to outlaw the practice died in the legislature again this year.
