What determines the color of the egg?

  • Print

You probably didn't know but.....

I was raised with chickens. Hundreds of chikcens.  We sold the eggs.  I was an egg gatherer.  Which I didn't like. I would grab the chickens heads and pull them off their nests so they wouldn't peck me when I reached under them to get their eggs.  This didn't go over well with management,  so I was demoted back down to feeder and waterer.  This made me a much happier little boy.

The color of what body part on a chicken determines the color eggs it will lay?

A: Ear lobes. Chickens with white ear lobes lay white eggs, whereas chickens with red ear lobes lay brown eggs.
