Chiefs on top AFC West till tonight

  • Print

If these guys are right....Bronco's take back the top spot in AFC West due to points scored. I have to revel in this Peyton Manning thing while I can. It ain't gonna last long! Can ya blame me?

Game Plan

When the Broncos run

Denver's running game is getting better, if last week's game is any indication. Knowshon Moreno is emerging as the go-to rusher, which should motivate Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman to compete. But the Raiders' run defense rates above the league average this season. Edge: Raiders

When the Raiders run

This is the basis of Oakland's attack. Terrelle Pryor has more rushing yards (162) than any other NFL quarterback. Star tailback Darren McFadden is fourth overall with 177 yards. But Oakland's first two opponents had two of the worst run defenses in the NFL, so there's no reason to think the Broncos can't keep the Raiders' numbers down. Edge: Broncos

When the Broncos pass

Denver passes often and exceptionally well, and after Eric Decker and Wes Welker posted humdrum games against the Giants, they will be out to have big games. Stopping Peyton Manning's passing attack is a difficult task for even the best defenses, and though Oakland's pass rush has been strong, it might not hold up when dealing with Manning's quick release and poise in the pocket. Edge: Broncos

When the Raiders pass

Typically, they don't. The Raiders rank 29th in the 32-team league in yards passing and Pryor is a much better runner than thrower. The Broncos' pass defense has been better than most expected. Edge: Broncos

Special teams

Trindon Holliday showed his value once again against the Giants. Just the threat of him on special teams is a major boon for Denver. Oakland has no such weapon. Edge: Broncos
