Curly's View

Truth In Advertising?

  • Print

"Does she, or doesn't she?"  No, I'm not talking about hair color, but I AM talking about my hair!

Lately, I've been getting into a little bit of trouble when I meet listeners in person.  "Your hair's not curly!"  they say in disbelief... obviously upset that I would misrepresent myself.  My answer is that all you have to do is add water and my hair is VERY curly.

God bless my niece that went to cosmotology school and first introduced me to the miracle that is a Flat Iron! For my entire life, I have enjoyed a very 'permanent' permanent... a full afro in high school, huge big hair in the 80's and 90's... (looked like I belonged on "Dynasty".)  But when everyone dropped the 'big hair' look?  I was still stuck with mine.  In fact, I'm STILL stuck with it!  Until, I discovered the Flat Iron!

Now, I can have straight hair... and I LIKE straight hair.  I used to dream of straight hair and now I can have it AND HAVE IT I DO!!!!  So, I'm not lying when I say I have curly hair. I just straighten it so I don't look like Shirley Temple.  Quite frankly, I'm a little old to look like Shirley Temple... I want to be a grown up.

I remember back in the big hair, afro days, people would actually ask me where I got the name Curly... go figure!  I can't win, anyway.
