Especially in this day and age! I'm talking about my siblings who have now celebrated 50 years of marriage!
I know, I know, how can I have siblings that have been married that long? Well, when there is 22 years difference in our age, it's not hard! AND, when you consider that they got married WAY younger than most people do today, the math works!
My brother and his wife celebrated their 50th this past weekend... my oldest sister and her husband celebrated their 50th four years ago. The rest of us don't even have a chance of making it to a 50th wedding anniversary... divorce and being widowed has taken that off the table for the the remaining five of us. So it's a treat to think that we actually have siblings that have made it!
In this day and age, we discourage kids in their teens from getting married... 50 years ago they did that as a matter of course. Not all of those marriages made it, but then, couples that wait till their 20's, 30's or even 40's don't last either. I'm a firm believer that it takes two very stubborn people to stick together through thick and thin, sickness and health, for better or for worse. Even though my marriage didn't make it, I am still proud to be in a family where three made it past 20 years... even 25... and two made it past 50! (I even have an aunt who made it past 60 years!)
So here's to the stubborn folks... Happy Anniversary!
