Musical culture, that is.
Again, another musical weekend for me and mine and it had absolutely nothing to do with country music... and everything to do with my son.
Saturday night was a Barbershop Holiday Extravaganza - a huge concert featuring around 100 singers from 5 different Barbershop Choruses right here in our own community! Christmas music like you've never heard before and not an instrument in the mix... just purely beautiful voices...one of which belonged to my son.
Sunday morning was a lovely Christmas Cantata at Grace United Methodist Church where my son is part of their choir and of course, he performed a beautiful solo. Holiday cantatas are something the Methodist Churches do very well!
And then my son and I ventured forth on Sunday night to enjoy a VERY fun evening of music and good cheer at Springfield Regional Opera's "Operazzi". We ALL got to do a little singing there. So much talent and some really nice 'treats', too. Operazzi is a musical evening held once a month at Creamery Art Center in downtown Springfield.
As I think back over the past couple years, I realize that because of my son, Ted, my musical horizons have expanded in ways I never even dreamed of. We are so lucky to live in a community so rich in music and talent! Do a little internet surfing and find out where the music action is and then get out there and enjoy... it's sure to lift your spirits no matter the season!
