... I can just hear the singing!
As an old Ranchhand, it has been my pleasure to meet some of country music's greatest legends... from Johnny Cash to Waylon Jennings to George Jones. With all of the fond remembrances and tributes being made trhough all forms of social media, I can't help but be reminded of one of George's biggest fans, Barefoot Bob Kinney.
I was just a snot-nosed kid of 17 when I started 'playing radio' and had the opportunity to not only play vinyl records by George Jones, but to be taught by one of the best disc jockeys in the business, fellow ranchhand and friend, Barefoot. He taught me to love and respect country music... to honor those that had worked so tirelessly to make country music, even when it wasn't popular to do so! He loved being a hillbilly (from New York!) and he never apologized for his love of all things country.
So, when I hear of another country giant passing from this life, I have to think of Barefoot and know that he's probably getting that 'exclusive' with him right now... and doing a little pickin' and singin', too! Have fun, boys!
