My Top 5 Songs of the Year

  • Print

It's all come down to this. My week full of countdowns is ending with a big one. This is huge, you guys. OK, maybe that's a little dramatic, but this was definitely the hardest list for me to narrow down. We were lucky in the country music world this year. There were plenty of good songs released to radio within the last 12 months.

Like with all of the lists I've done, 5 is the 5th best and 1 is the best. Here ya go:

5. "Beer With Jesus" - Thomas Rhett: I know some people aren't on board with the fact that this song talks about having an alcoholic beverage with Jesus. I get that. That's not what the song is about. "Let's get a beer" is just another way of saying "let's talk". As a God fearing man, I wouldn't mind asking Jesus a few questions myself. I heard Thomas play this song in our conference room in January and have been hooked ever since.

4. "Cruise" - Florida-Georgia Line: Was there a better song for summer than this? You literally had to 'roll your windows down and cruise' while listening to this song, just like the lyrics state. I'm very glad that no one knows how many times I played this in my truck. Seriously, on repeat for a long, long time. Embarrassing stuff.

3."I Drive Your Truck" - Lee Brice: This song could very easily be higher on the list. But, the top 2 songs are fantastic and this song has just been released recently. If it would have been released a few months ago, it'd probably be my top song. This song hits me hard with a personal experience. I'm not sure that the song could have been written any better.

2. "Springsteen" - Eric Church: You know I'm Team Eric Church. But, when I heard this song off his album, I wasn't blown away. It might have been because there are so many great songs on the album, but regardless, I was blown away eventually. It was just a little delayed. I don't know what else I can say besides that Eric Church is the man.

1. "Over You" - Miranda Lambert: It usually takes a lot for me to like a song by a female artist. Nothing against females. I love females, but you usually have to be Taylor Swift or have a ridiculous song to catch my attention with a female voice. Miranda Lambert did that with this song. Such an emotional song that gets me every time. It's gonna be hard for someone to top this in 2013.

Other songs I considered:

"Ours" - Taylor Swift

"A Woman Like You" - Lee Brice

"I Don’t Want This Night To End" - Luke Bryan

"Wanted" - Hunter Hayes

"Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck" - Kip Moore

"Cowboys & Angels" - Dustin Lynch

What was your favorite song of the year???
