'The Office' Season 9- A Disappointment So Far

  • Print

I remember the first time I ever watched the TV show "The Office." It was during my one semester at college. I was sitting in my dorm, avoiding homework, like usual, and I happened to catch a rerun on TBS. I was hooked. So, I started watching the DVDs, beginning with the first season and eventually caught up, so I could watch new episodes as they originally aired.

There have been up and down seasons, some better than others. And then, Steve Carell announced that he was leaving and I know a lot of people were devastated, myself included. But, I was still a die hard "Office" fan and planned to stick it out as long as the show was still going. Although the one full season they've had without Michael Scott wasn't as funny as the others, I still thought it was pretty good.

A month or 2 ago, they announced that this season, season 9, would be the final one. I was a little disappointed, just because I still thought it was funny and wanted it to go on as long as possible. Well, we are 2 episodes in to that final season and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm OK with it ending when this season's done. After watching last night's episode, I can honestly say that it was the worst episode I've ever seen.

A few things about this season:

1. Jim and Dwight couldn't be taken in worse directions. As I mentioned earlier, last season without Michael was still funny. You wanna know the main reason for that? They had great interaction between Jim and Dwight, just like in the early episodes. Now, this season, they hardly interact and all of the sudden, Jim's lying to Pam. Not a fan.

2. Kelly and Ryan are greatly missed. Although, these 2 have never been the main characters, they were fantastic. And now, both are off the show. Not to mention, they were both writers for the show before as well. That might be part of the reason that this season has been so disappointing thus far.

3. There are 2 bright spots: Erin and Kevin. Kevin has been about my favorite character from the beginning and that's continuing this season. He's just hilarious. Erin has got better and better ever since she joined the cast. Now that some of the main characters have left, her role seems to be increasing, which is a good thing.

4. If Andy and Erin don't end up together, I riot. We saw in last night's episode, that their could be other players for Erin's heart. The 2 new guys both seem to have some sort of attraction to her. This isn't right. Andy and Erin were meant for each other... Almost as much as Jim and Pam belonged together. Almost.

With all of that being said, I'll ride this season out. I've come too far to quit now. I think all "Office" fans are hoping that Michael Scott makes a cameo or 2... or 12 this season. We're 2 episodes in and I witnessed the worst episode ever last night. I gotta think it can't get any worse. Gosh, I hope not.

This is some of the great Jim and Dwight interaction we are missing:
