OK, I'm well aware that "Country Strong" came out a long time ago, but I finally watched it this past weekend. Given my job and my interests in life (country music), it's pretty sad that it took me this long to see it. But, I did, and I liked a lot of it. The following is my review of what I liked and didn't like about a few of the characters in the movie:
Gwyneth Paltrow- Although I thought it was a pretty good performance by the actress, I couldn't stand her in the movie. Her character was just one of those really unlikable characters. Given, it takes a lot for me to like Paltrow in a movie because I dislike her so much as a person. Every time someone asks me why I dislike her, I bring up this quote from her: “I would rather die than let my kid eat Cup-a -Soup.” This quote bugs me like you wouldn't believe. I can't stand it when famous people think they are better than everyone else. I realize a hate that was stemmed from such a dumb quote is a bit drastic, but I stand by it. Haha!
Tim McGraw- Another good performance was from this guy. The multi-talented man was another unlikable character, but because I like him in real life, I was OK with it. What can't he do?
Garrett Hedlund- This is the real reason I wanted to write this review. He plays, Beau Hutton, the most honest and likable character in the movie by far. Not only was his acting performance great, but so was his singing performance. I wish so bad that he would start releasing songs to country radio and really pursue his singing career. I personally think he sounds like Chris LeDoux (R.I.P.), one of my favorite country artists of all time. Here's a video of my favorite song in the movie and one of my favorite songs, period that he sings with Leighton Meester:
