What is Red Dirt?

You have probably heard the term Red Dirt country, and maybe you know and love the music or maybe you don't know what it is. I am going to learn you some Red Dirt(yes I know learn you is not appropriate grammar). Here are a few things about Red Dirt that you need to know:

  • Red Dirt music is named after the color of the soil in Oklahoma. Red Dirt began in the 1980's in Stillwater, Ok
  • Some define Red Dirt music as "country music with an attitude". Others say it's a state of mind as much as it is a sound - a sound that successfully closes the gap between rock and country.
  • Red Dirt does not have a definitive sound. The style and sound varies from Artist to Artist and Band to Band
  • Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland, Great Divide, Wade Bowen and Stoney LaRue are some very popular Red Dirt bands and artists.
  • Red Dirt live shows features tons of energy, and the venues are usually packed with Red Dirt fans some traveling over 500 miles to see some of their favorites
  • Stoney LaRue is known as the Godfather of Red Dirt

It just so happens that you can see the "Godfather of Red Dirt" Stoney LaRue tonight with another KTTS Catch a Rising Star show at Midnight Rodeo. The door open at 7pm. Below is Stoney performing one of his biggin's
