A contractor from Vernon County is the latest person charged after authorities say several men kidnapped the wrong man in New Jersey, then brought him back to Missouri. Investigators say last month several men drove from Missouri to New Jersey to kidnap pet store owner Jeffery Muller. He escaped at a convenience store at Lake of the Ozarks where police learned it was not the person those men intended to kidnap. Officials have now charged Roy Slates of Nevada with hindering the prosecution and hiding his involvement in the kidnapping, as well as a home invasion the month prior.
