Even with a down economy, the people of Springfield are still very generous. That's what Major Claire Grainger of the Salvation Army says. So far, kettle collections for the year are more than $300,000. That's a lot, but its only the halfway mark for projected goals. Grainger says it is amazing how much money is collected with little donations being continuously dropped in. She says every cent counts.
